M.J. Offen is a writer, producer and artist with experience in animation spanning screens big and small, books and toys. She has developed series for HBO Max, Amazon, Disney Jr., Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, DreamWorks, Warner Bros., Spinmaster, Henson, Silvergate, Sesame Workshop, and more. M.J. has worked on dozens of cartoons, including Jade Armor, American Girl’s Welliewishers, SpongeBob Squarepants, Ben10, Tom & Jerry, Mega Man, Charlie’s Colorforms City, Super Monsters, Goldie & Bear.
At Mattel, M.J. was Head Of Story for Girls Brands, including Barbie, Monster High, and Ever After High, on numerous movies, television, and web series. As Head of Animation at JASH, a comedy collective co-founded by Sarah Silverman, Michael Cera, Reggie Watts, Tim Heidecker & Eric Wareheim, M.J. produced over 200 original shorts with an A-List roster of talent. In 2016, JASH series “Very Animated People,” was nominated for a “Best Animated Program” Streamy. Prior to JASH, M.J. was Creative Director of Animation at Maker Studios, working with top YouTubers to create animated web series, garnering over 140 million views.
She was briefly a toy designer at Funrise Toys, for which her “Gazillion Bump and Go Bubble Bug” was a 2012 TOTY finalist. M.J.’s postgraduate study included a Residency at Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture as well as an international Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, for which she did a thesis on “Humor As A Humanitarian Aid” in 9 countries. M.J. holds an MFA from Art Center College of Design and a BA in English and World Lit from Pitzer College. She lives in L.A./D.C. with her partner, toddler, baby and dog.
